There’s a reason Marie Kondo’s now a household name. Decluttering has become a worldwide trend as people realize the benefits of ditching what we don’t need.
And as much as a clean closet makes many of us giddy, the benefits of shedding unwanted or unnecessary things extend beyond just belongings. We know that physical clutter overwhelms and causes us to feel stuck, but what about emotional clutter?
When we hold on to negative emotions, bad habits, and unhelpful mindsets, we are weighing ourselves down and holding us back from living our best life. Even though this mental clutter is invisible, it weighs a ton, keeping our hearts and minds heavy and our lives in a rut.

Spring is around the corner, my friends. What better time to do some internal and external cleaning and start a new chapter. Here are just a few mental messes that might need bagged up and put out on the curb.
Unhealthy habits
Bad habits have a way of sneaking into our lives, sometimes even unnoticed. And they can derail our best intentions in a heartbeat. Maybe you’ve been hitting the snooze button one time too many or perhaps your sweet tooth has gotten the best of you. Spring is a great time of year to look at your habits and see which ones need to go.
Bitterness and resentment
Holding a grudge or harboring anger towards someone might make you feel like you’re getting justice, but the opposite is true. Unforgiveness and bitterness actually do way more harm to your own physical and emotional self than anyone else’s. Let go of those grudges and you’ll feel lighter and freer in no time.
Stress
We all know stress is destructive and unhelpful. Yet most of us have a way of allowing it into our hearts and minds. Intentionally go after this beast by taking a proactive stance. Regular exercise, proper nutrition, deep breathing, healthy friendships, journaling, spending time outdoors, and staying hydrated can all be helpful.

Fear and self-doubts
Are your fears and limiting beliefs getting the best of you? So often we let our own insecurities and worries keep us from living the amazing and full life we were made for. Make a list of any negative self-talk or fears. Share with a friend and make a plan for pushing through. Calling these things out is half the battle.
Mom guilt
Nothing can keep us feeling down and defeated like a hefty dose of mom guilt. We convince ourselves that we’re not parenting like we should and we’re letting everyone down. Usually, there’s nothing further from the truth! Recognize when mom guilt starts creeping in and shake it off before it gets the best of you.
