Kasey Potts: Bringing Childhood Dreams to Life Using Social Media

In this episode, my guest is Talk Show Host, Digital Creator, and fellow Disney lover Kasey Potts. We discuss her story of how she brought her childhood dream of having her own talk show to life using the power of social media.

Kasey shares her incredible story of how she has come to have her own talk show. Since she was 10 years old, she always dreamed of wanting her own talk show. She wanted to be the next Oprah. As a 10-year-old, she actually worked for radio Disney, back at the beginning of Radio Disney in 1997. She talks about how she auditioned and was chosen to be the kid correspondent. She began to do commercials and her mom helped her make connections within the Disney community. One thing led to another and she started hosting her own show on the network called Kasey’s Korner. She had the opportunity to interview many famous actors and singers at the time, as just a pre-teen! This experience really sparked her passion and her path to pursue broadcast journalism.

Kasey went on to attend Emerson College and studied broadcast journalism. After some time, and the changes of the year 2020, she found herself being called to connect with her passion again. She talks about how she’d been working as a brand manager for Wolfgang Puck and lost her job during the pandemic. When life allowed her the time to take a pause, she realized that she had no excuse to not to follow her dream. With this change of perspective, she realized that she had all the resources she needed to build her vision, using her phone and social media. She reached out to people within her previous network at radio Disney and started conducting interviews.

Kasey talks about how some of the skills she learned at such a young age at radio Disney set her up to do what she’s doing now. She had interacted with a variety of stars and artists during that time, and by using social media, she was able to open the lines of communication with these people and start building momentum for her new show.

Kasey talks about how the events in her life prepared her and led her to where she is now, even though they didn’t seem to connect at the time. From food to consulting, to marketing, she was building a varied skill set that she now realizes, equipped her for her entrepreneurial endeavors.

Instead of waiting for things to be perfect and planned out, Kasey decided she needed to just go for it. Kasey tells the story of her Oprah sweater, and how it served as motivation for her to pursue her dream. She talks about how her first talk show episodes went, and how she started by networking within her community.

Kasey talks about how she is grateful for all the amazing people she’s had the opportunity to connect with through her show. We take some time to talk about creating positive spaces on social media and how that is so important. In 2021, we have the opportunity to interact with people that make us feel good.

Kasey talks about the details of her talk show. Her goal is to have a show every Thursday at 1:00 pm PST Live on her Instagram. She talks about the exciting upcoming guests on her show and how she reaches out to people without being afraid of hearing the word no.

I share the meaning behind Project 100 and invite Kasey to share how she is incorporating that idea into her life right now. She is no longer making excuses for not living her best, boldest life. There is no timeline for when you can improve yourself. Having struggled with her weight all her life, the uncertainty of 2020 brought an opportunity for her to take a new approach to her health. When incorporating new habits, she touches on the fact that it is always the hardest to create new habits at the beginning.

We talk about how when you surround yourself with positive people, it can serve as inspiration and motivation in your own life. We conclude the conversation by chatting about fitness. I thank Kasey for joining me on my show and she shares where listeners can connect with her.
