Unleashing Your Mojo: 5 Habits to Crank Up Your Motivation and Get Back on Track

Welcome back to crank it up. Today, we are talking about something that is near and dear to me. It’s personal. I’m going through it right now. And what I’ve seen on my social media recently is that I am very much not the only one going through it.

So we’re talking about cranking up your mojo, cranking up your motivation, really getting yourself back on track. I think this time of year, although for me personally, this time of year always feels like the new year.

My life has revolved around school years and football seasons for so long that actually August feels like the new year to me. I kind of operate in that August to May mentality. And yet for so many of us this time of year, it’s a season of transition.

It’s a season of big change. Maybe you’re taking your 1st child to kindergarten. Right? I feel like I just did that yesterday. Maybe you’re taking one of your kids to middle school. They’re starting middle school, or maybe they’re starting high school, or maybe you’re doing the college drop off for the very first time.

And in the JV house, the We have all 3 girls now actually out of the house, employed, not in school. It’s so crazy. Literally, I don’t know how we got here.

What are my habits, and what can I tweak? Because for me right now coming off of summer, which was amazing, some of those habits get shifted around. Right? And as we get back into this back to school season, we get back into fall, really is a change in seasons.

What could we shift in our habits that might help us feel like we’re back on track, we’re back in our rhythm, we’re getting our mojo back? You know? And I want to share with you 5 little tweaks that I’m making in my own life that seem to be helping me get that motivation back, seem to be helping me back in Groove.

And what I want you to understand most of all is that when we tweak our habits, when we think about life change in general, let’s stop thinking about it in terms of complete overhauls, and let’s really understand, acknowledge, dig in, embrace the concept of life change happening in inches.

Whether it’s our goals, our dreams, or navigating through a challenging life season, the It happens in inches. It doesn’t happen overnight. And if we can embrace that idea that these tiny little tweaks that we make, they are the tweaks. They are the adjustments, the recalibrations that will get us back on track, that will help us find our mojo, that will get us the

Feeling that motivation that we wanna feel, it’s never gonna be this ginormous life overhaul.

Stepping into Success: 5 Little Tweaks to Jumpstart Your Motivation and Find Your Mojo

It’s always gonna be a series of small tweaks, small habits, small actions that add up to those big results. So let me share with you 5 little tweaks that I’m making right now. Perhaps it’ll help you.

Number 1 Habit Tweak – Commit to a wake up time

Commit to a wake up time. Listen. You already know how I feel about the snooze button. You already know how I feel about your morning routine. You already know how I feel about the power of the morning.

And when I say commit to a wake up time, what I want you to hear is I don’t care what time that is. If you have children at home, it needs to be before your children get up. That’s a no brainer. But I don’t care what time it is. I care about the commitment you make to it. Time is less important than making a commitment.

Number 2 Habit Tweak – Drink half your body weight in ounces of water

Drink half your weight in ounces of water daily. So simple. Right? It makes such a difference. Why? Because most of us walk around in a state of mild dehydration. Your brain will be clearer. You’ll have less brain fog. You will think with more clarity. You’ll have more energy. You’ll curb cravings. Drink your water. Boys and girls, drink your water. Drink half your weight in ounces of water daily.

Number 3 Habit Tweak – Daily movement

Daily movement that fires you up. That last part’s key. Daily movement that fires you up, movement that you look forward to doing. I believe so deeply in the transformative power of movement of fitness, physical and mental. I believe so deeply because I’ve seen it.

I’ve experienced it. I’ve felt it. I’ve watched it. When you discover that you can do 1 more squat or 1 more push up or lift a heavier weight, the It transfers into every other aspect of your life. I’ve seen it, and I’ve experienced it. The power of movement is undeniable, the And yet, sometimes we get caught up in movement that we think we should be doing rather than something that actually lights us up. What brings you joy? Is it going for a walk with your dog? Is it doing some yoga? What is it that brings you joy that you look forward to doing?

Number 4 Habit Tweak – Collaboration

Collaboration. Assemble your hype squad. Gather your girl gang. Whatever it takes. Rather than waiting for someone to pick you, rather than waiting for someone to call you, the Rather than waiting for someone else to reach out to you, you choose you.

You choose yourself, and you be the one to assemble your squad, to gather your girl gang, and lean in to each other. Call your friends.

Go to Starbucks. Do whatever it takes. Stop waiting on someone to call you. You are the one to do the calling. Choose yourself. Gather your people. Nobody is supposed to do any of this. I don’t care whether it’s fitness, business, parenting, life.

Number 5 Habit Tweak – Purge and Replace

Purge and replace with discretion. Okay. I’m just gonna get really real here. In this transition time in the JV house, I have done some what we might call the serious retail therapy. I called it sad shopping. It’s called retail therapy, and there, I just said it. Okay? I did. I did some retail therapy.

So I have been spending some time purging, cleaning, and organizing.

Does that help me stay busy? Yes. It does, which also helps this with getting back momentum and motivation and getting out of a rut and feeling sad, and it also purges and cleans and organizes, these are things that we all need to do. Right?

Now as you purge, as you clean, and as you organize, because, oh my goodness, there’s just nothing better than that feeling of just purging and getting this extra stuff out of your house.

So the purging and the and the cleaning and the organizing is kind of one half, the And then the other half is sort of connecting. Do you need to replace it with something bigger and then make a decision from there?

Bonus 1 – Daily walk

Take a daily walk with headphones. Now the reason why I say with headphones is because you get to choose what goes in the Your ears. Be so intentional about who you’re letting in your ear, who you’re letting in your head, and in your heart.

I mean, my goodness, if you’re listening to this podcast, then I’m so grateful that you’re letting me in your life for a little bit.

Be really intentional about who you’re letting in the To your head and your heart and your ears. Put those headphones on, and maybe you’re listening to some Taylor Swift. Maybe you’re listening to a podcast. Maybe you’re listening to the An audiobook, whatever it is, just get real intentional about it. Get outside. Get something good in your ears and get to moving.

Bonus 2 – Dial in your healthy habits

Dial in your healthy habits. What do I mean by that? It’s really easy in times of transition or big life change that might make you a little bit sad to focus on that sad. I mean, I may or may not be speaking from experience. You know?

If you’re going through it, you’re going through it. You know what you know what I’m talking about. And rather than focus on that transition or that big life change, the Let’s shift our focus to making ourselves as healthy as we can possibly be So that we have the energy to go through these transitions, to navigate these challenges the With more confidence.

And what does that mean? It really just means, you know, drink some more water, eat a few more veggies, make sure you’re taking your vitamins, and do an awesome skin care routine. Like, they Just really focus on taking care of you rather than, you know, where did the time go, and then I’m so sad or this is such a big transition or how will I navigate this?

Instead of putting our energy there, which really only amplifies those negative feelings, let’s really focus on making ourselves as healthy as we possibly can be in the most positive way, just really taking care of ourselves mentally, physically, spiritually, all the ways so that we can navigate this change with confidence.

I’m going through it right now. Never navigate this stuff alone because it just amplifies how big and insurmountable it can feel when chances are you’ve got the people in your life who may have been through this kind of change as well, and also they just wanna help you. They just wanna help you. So tap into some of these habits. Commit to that wake up time. The Hydrate. Move your body. Lean into your people.

Do what will make you feel your best, then I promise you’ll be better for it on the other side. Now go crank it up. That’s it for this episode. Thank you for making this podcast part of your life.
