I’m very excited to introduce you to my friend, Jeff Sieh. Jeff and I met a couple years ago here in Orlando at a mastermind hosted by my and his dear friend, Lou Mangelo.

Lou, as you know, is a friend, and we have a deep Disney connection, Jeff and I do, as well as a connection on growing our businesses using social media and doing it in smart ways.

He was an early adopter of Pinterest. He is a visual marketing consultant. He has worked with and produced visual content for various companies, including Guy Kawasaki, social media examiner, Tailwind, like, he knows what he’s talking about when it comes to the video piece and the repurposing piece.

Content Repurposing Secrets Unleashed

And this is a concept that I think so many of us as entrepreneurs really need to embrace. You have to embrace the fact that you’re running a business even if it’s a side hustle, even if it’s your passion project.

And you have to embrace that you do not have all the time in the world, and that’s where repurposing your content comes in.

And that’s where this conversation with Jeff Sieh comes in. He’s got some great tips, including a brand new course that is available to you, so stay tuned for information on that.

Sit back. Take some notes, learn how to repurpose your content with my friend, Jeff Sieh. Okay, my guy. Jeff, welcome to the Crank It Up podcast.

We’ve already listeners, we’ve already spent, like, 10 minutes just Jeff schooling me and telling me all the things that I need.

So Jeff and I have been friends kind of in the Disney space for a couple years now. And, quite honestly, I think he’s one of the smartest people that I know.

His tech brain is so crazy. It’s so smart. And, you know, we were talking about ideas for this podcast, and I was sharing how so many of you are entrepreneurial. You have side hustles.

You’ve got something that you’re trying to build on the side. At the same time, you may be working the home full time. You’ve got a family full time.

You’ve got other things on your plate besides just the entrepreneurial endeavor that you might have.

And the beast in your life, the beast in our lives as entrepreneurs is content creation. It’s what we need is what we need to do, but it can be the beast.

And sometimes the fear of it, the fear of what to do, what to say how to use what we do, how to use it over and over again can get in the way of us even doing it, which gets in the way of us actually building our businesses, getting closer to our goals, closer to the dreams, closer to the life that we wanna live.

So Jeff’s gonna talk to us today about something that he’s just playing at and that is repurposing content and all kinds of cool tools for doing that. But before we get into that, I just want you to just talk to us about how you got here, Jeff.

Jeff [00:03:39]:
It’s really funny. And thank you, first of all, for having me on. This is fun. I can’t wait because Julie’s gonna be on my show coming up, and I’m so excited about that. She’s so high energy.

She actually led us at momentum in these amazing Energetics, little mini sessions that were so much fun, woke us up. So, yes, I’m excited to have you on because you are, just so always, energetic and and just very inspirational.

But for my story I go way back and this is like ancient I’m ancient.

Maximizing content reach in social media landscape

[00:04:08]:
So, way back in the day, I started my own company. I did, was doing videos, and my client started needing this thing called social media. And so I started my own blog because I thought, well, you know what? I’m telling my clients to do this.

I kinda need to do it too. And I was listening to a podcast, and this lady was on there, and she was telling about how Pinterest drove all this traffic to her blog. And I’m like, hey. I have a new blog. I need some traffic.

And so I started down the road of Pinterest, and I would use that to push traffic to my blog. And I started the first blog post I wrote called Pinterest tips number one, and it was about sharing a secret board with my daughter. And that kinda went crazy and got me all this traffic. And so this was back in the wild west of live video days.

This is back in Google plus, and I started the show with four other guys who had way bigger follower counts than like, it was the wild west. So I was able to get Guy Kawasaki on.

I got the producer of Pretty Woman and Under Siege on. And it’s just this crazy time and I learned all about live video back then. That morphed into okay. I’m gonna start my own podcast, mainly Pinterest tips.

That was a show that I did, and then I went to start working for Social Media Examiner, which is a big company in San Diego. They have a huge conference.

Worked with them for about five years and produced their live shows, spoke at their conferences, did a bunch of stuff for them. I actually helped them start their Instagram back in the day.

Yeah. They didn’t have one. I was like, you gotta get on this. And,

Julie [00:05:45]:
social media examiner, you might wanna.

Jeff [00:05:47]:
That’s right. You might wanna be on this new little platform. And so, I did that for a while, then I started my own show, which is social media news live, and that’s kind of the origin story, but it always started with live video.

And the repurposing thing came because, you know, we’re all small little, you know, starting out, doing our own thing, and I’m lazy. And I always from the very beginning from my live show, I always had a podcast go out of it.

Because when you do video, there are so many things you can take with it, take pieces from it, and have your content go further. ~Jeff

And so one of the things that I see a lot of people do is they’re creating this content, and then they’re moving on to the next one.

They’re, like, getting the next guest or they’re writing the next post, and they never squeeze all that juice out of the content that they already have.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.23.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.23.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.23.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content”]

Workflows, Process and New Technology For Content Creation

And so I’ve really worked on workflows and processes. And now with AI, it’s so much faster and easier. And so I when I and we’ll go through it, but I chop up my show. I repurpose the snot out of that thing.

And, with algorithms today, you really have to because people aren’t just gonna see even if they follow you, just if you just put it up one time. It’s lost in the ether. So that’s kind of the story.

Julie [00:06:57]:
Let’s talk about that for a moment and just why repurposing is so important because The stat used to be back in the day. Also, if we could just talk about the evolution of social media.

I mean, I was on Myspace, and then got on Facebook and then got on Instagram. And, you know, you used to, back in the day, be able to put up a post, one post, and you might garner some customers, some clients, some traction, whatever from that one post.

It’s just very different now because there are so many more users, so many more skilled users, but it doesn’t mean your story isn’t important.

It doesn’t mean your content isn’t important. It does mean, though, you have to be willing a little bit, this is how I think about it, to get a little bored sometimes of what you personally are saying over and over again for it to actually make the dent in the universe that you want it to make. ~ Julie

And when you think about the big name speakers that you’ve heard or some of the content creators that you follow, I bet you you could find some pretty recurring themes with those. But to your point, Jeff, we do that. We put up the post in the move on.

I’m like, oh my God. Only three people liked it. Okay. Better do something different. I better do something different. I better do something different. And it’s this constant bouncing from post to post, from idea to idea to idea rather than sort of settling in and going, k. No.

I’m gonna say this thing, and I’m gonna say it 16 different ways.

Strategies for Repurposing Content

  1. Repetition and sharing key points across different platforms
  2. Resizing and reusing content for various social media platforms
  3. Focusing on one main platform and repurposing for different audiences
  4. Creating multiple pieces of content from one original idea

Jeff [00:08:25]:
Right. Well, you also have to think about, like, okay, how you consume social media. You’re going to TikTok or and our Instagram reels and just go.

And If you’re doing that, you know your audience is as well. And so what makes them stop the scroll? What makes them dive in? And a lot of times, it’s seeing, for me, my ugly mug show up on their feed more than once.

They’re like, what is this guy? He is very persistent. He’s got a weird looking beard. I’m gonna hear what he has to say this time.

And so you have to constantly, especially with algorithms, it’s not like even if you get people to follow you, your followers aren’t seeing your content anymore.

And so you still have to keep putting that out in new and interesting ways, and repurposing is the I think it’s a necessary skill that we all develop now with just the way things are.

Julie [00:09:15]:
Which, in theory, should make your life easier. Like, right now, if you’re listening to this and you are a small business, you’re a side hustler, you started your own online business, whatever it might be, you should right now be going I think you had sighing with relief that maybe you could have one idea or one piece of content and use it 12 different ways.

So let’s say let’s say we’re gonna do that. Do you start with video? Is that like your base foundation?

Jeff [00:09:48]:
Just because it’s the easiest thing to do. Now I do a live video show because for me, I love having comments and interacting with people live, and that’s all my even the community that comes around that, that’s my thing.

You don’t have to do live video. You could just do you know, if you wanna do, like, a YouTube ish style video or an Instagram live or whatever.

But the thing is once you have a show that you put together or a piece of video content that you put together, then you can just repurpose it.

Say let’s say you were just doing an Instagram live and you only did it for 20 minutes. Well, there’s a 20 minute podcast with that audio, you can repurpose it as a blog post. Now with the AI tools that we have, you could throw that audio in there.

It’ll automatically put a transcript together, and you can clean it up a little bit and have even AI rewrite it. You got a blog post right there.

You’ve got clips that you can repurpose from that video to even smaller, let’s say, YouTube shorts straight from that video.

By the way, you chomp it up inside of a platform. And there’s just you just keep going and going and going. And so easily with a 15 minute Instagram live or upload a video, you could easily have at least, like, 10 pieces of content right from that one little video. And that’s why I love doing video.

Okay. So first and foremost, people have to get over their fear of being on video. Listen. We’re just gonna it’s 2024. You gotta do some video. ~ Julie

Jeff [00:11:11]:
So listen. I always say I have a face for Photoshop. Like, if I can do it, you can do it. Alright? So you can do it. And there’s some things you can do. I mean, you can practice, and, like, I have I have an actual a a Facebook group that’s private that nobody else can see, and I can practice my live video before, you know, I did when I first was getting everything set up, I, you know, watch buttons to press and all that stuff.

I would go live there and test things out until I felt good about doing that. I used to have just recently, I got a new monitor, but my old monitor had a sticky note, like, almost right in the middle that had an arrow that was saying for me to look at the camera when I was talking, and I would have that to remind me to look up there.

[00:11:52]:
So there’s little hacks you can do, but you have to practice. And, you know, my video is you look at the first one I did, it’s horrible. And everybody starts at 0, and you just get better.

I mean, I’ll hopefully be better in a year from now than I am right now. It’s just it’s just constantly being consistent. The other thing about putting out content is consistency, and repurposing can even help with that.

It can help you repurpose things. You know? Julie and I said, well, if this goes long, She’s gonna split it up and have 2 pieces.

Well, that’s one scheduled guest he doesn’t have to get next time. That’s the way to extend your content as well. So being smart about that is one of the things that really works for repurposing content.

Julie [00:12:33]:
So let’s just go through the flow. Like, where has it start? How do we get there? Let’s walk us through it. And, you know, I’m a listener who’s like, okay. I just started my business. I’ve been in business for a little while.

I’m not getting the traction that I want, but we are it’s a new year, and here we go. 2024 is my year, and I’m gonna dig into social media. Here we go.

Strategic Content Repurposing: Key to Amplifying Reach

Jeff [00:12:54]:
So first of all, you need to pick schedule. Like, in in my I have my show. It’s all the time, it’s every Friday at 10 AM CST. I put out a live show. If I don’t, if for some reason I’m gone or something like that, I pre record the show and have it go out live.

So you wanna have a schedule and you wanna stick to it. If it’s, like, twice a month, fine. Just make sure you do it at a consistent schedule.

So this is what I do. This is what works for me. You can modify it or whatever, but I start with my live video – as soon as I’m done like, I use Ecamm to record everything, and the reason I use Ecamm is I’m on a Mac, and what it allows me to do is when I’m done with my show, I have separate audio tracks, and I usually have a I have me as the host.

I have Connor Brown as my co host, and then I have my guest. And so each of those tracks are separated, and that makes it really easy for editing.

Not only are my audio tracks separate, but with Ecamm now, my video tracks are separate. So I have a mixed version of what goes out to everybody that’s recorded that I can use, but I also have separate tracks of everybody who’s on my show, which if you’ve ever edited a video before, makes it super easy.

Like, sometimes you’re maybe late on the camera switching or or it’s just one thing with four of you on screen.

This way, I can have it for Instagram reels. I can use a square version for LinkedIn. All these different things I can have at the end of the show. So I got all those pieces of content from just going live.

I take those pieces, and I upload those to a software called Descript, which has changed everything for me. I do everything there. I produce Guy Kawasaki’s podcast. We edit the entire podcast inside of there.

[00:14:34]:
But for me, I take everything in there. I throw it into Descript. It creates a transcript like you would a Google Doc. Right? And so I can look at that document, and what I can do is if I make changes in that document. Like, I’m editing a Word document or Google Doc.

It makes the changes in my video and my audio. So you don’t have to worry about timelines and all this stuff anymore like I had to do back with Premiere and all those things, MovieMaker back in the day. It’s all done like a document.

It is so stinking cool. It will also search through there. And if I say a lot, which sometimes I do, or if I have a coughing, you know, fit or Julie swears uncontrollably on my podcast. I am able to go in there and find those in the

Julie [00:15:16]:
known to do so much.

Jeff [00:15:17]:
Yes. Exactly. But, it will take those out. Like, I can just click a button, and it’ll say remove filler words, and you can do that. It also allows me to take those clips. I can highlight like, I’m gonna interview Julie.

She’s gonna say something awesome, and I’ve found a good question and then an answer is usually almost the perfect amount of time for a clip on social. So I can highlight that.

I can see how long it is. I can say, oh, that’s gonna be under a minute. That’s gonna be great for a YouTube short. I can just hit a button, and it clips it out. I can do other little magic, have an intro and outro and all that stuff and export it, and it’s done.

Every piece of content starts with a transcript

I’m also able to take that file exported as a podcast, which I upload to my podcast player. And so everything for me starts with a transcript, And I can take that transcript now.

I can send it to Chat GPT and say, hey. Write me show notes for this, for my podcast. It’s done.

I can say, hey. Based on those show notes and my time stamps, write me a 1,000 word article. It’s done.

Stuff that used to take me, like, a day to do. I can get everything done in 15 minutes. I also use AI now to create my images for my blog post and my artwork.

So all that stuff is done now for me, very, very quickly, and I’m able to repurpose that. I usually get about 3 to 5 clips out of every show that my daughter is working for me. She’s actually taking those and putting those on social media, and those are constantly going through my feed.

I have a service or a software called Agorapulse that allows me just to recircle those cues in those certain social media platforms and continue to go. So it ‘s kind of my workflow in a nutshell. Okay.

Julie [00:16:58]:
I have a couple things we wanna talk about.

So because this was me two years ago when I heard you talk about this the first time, And my mind was exploding, and my jaw was on the floor, and I’m like, I don’t even know.

And so for anyone who’s doing that right now, I want you to think about this. I have been doing social media since as I mentioned, I was on Myspace. I didn’t know what I was doing, and I was on Myspace.

Then came along Facebook. I didn’t know what I was doing, but then we were on Facebook.

And then came Instagram. I didn’t know what I was doing, and then we figure it out.

Just this morning, the morning of us having this conversation, I was on another platform inside of an app that’s called a growth group where I did a live video that I’d never done before and had no idea wasn’t really sure how I was all gonna do it, but I figured it out.

So I want anyone whose jaw is on the floor going, this sounds amazing. Oh my gosh. But I don’t even know where to start to just take a breath and remember, probably you didn’t know how to start anything. Probably at one point in time, you didn’t know how to start a podcast. ~Julie

And here you are, let’s say…

Jeff [00:18:04]:
Right. I never went to college to learn how to Podcast or edit video or any of that stuff. This is just you if I can learn it, you can learn it. And now the tools make it so easy. The key is not getting intimidated when you open up the script for the 1st time and go

What is all this? And I always tell somebody when they’re learning a new platform or trying to learn like Photoshop or something. Learn the terms. Like, what a mask is? What is, you know, a cut? What’s a jump cut when you edit?

Because you can Google that. I have forgotten so much stuff on how to use Adobe Photoshop and some of these other tools, but I know what things are called. And I’m like, how do I make a jump cut in Adobe Premiere? A

nd I can figure that information out. So you don’t have to absorb everything. You just need to learn the basic terms to navigate in there, and then you could Google that Stuff.

That’s what I usually recommend for people. But, like and not getting overwhelmed. Like, don’t go and, like, I can never learn this. I hate it when people say that. Like I can never. I’m like, what? I did it, and I don’t you know, don’t tell me that you can’t do something because that gets…

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.23.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.23.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.23.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content”]

Julie [00:19:10]:
Well, also who you know, a lot of my audience is female, and I would say a lot of them have children. And I don’t know about you, Jeff, but I didn’t get a manual before having three daughters.

And I brought three live human beings into the world, and they let me leave the hospital with them with no manual, and somehow they’re all alive and well, and I’ve figured that out.

So if I can birth a human and leave the hospital with it and figure it out we can certainly figure out some tech. So I think, you know, that that first step is okay. This is gonna be new, and I’m gonna be okay with it because that’s Yeah.

A beautiful thing about life is that we get to learn and stay curious, and that’s how we grow, and that’s super cool.

Jeff [00:19:55]:
I was gonna say when you mentioned, you know, you have a lot of your audience has a lot of entrepreneurial women. Yes. My thing is you look in the social media space, all the top people are women.

Like Jenny Kutcher, you know, Julie Voris. All these people, they are the ones that I actually learned from, like, Peg Fitzpatrick, who took me under her wing in Google plus a long time ago, has taught me so much about this. So don’t let that, like, I just you know, I don’t know that you can do it.

There’s so many people who have done it. You can do it too. And with the new stuff with AI, we’re all on the same level. Like Yeah. Nobody knows where this stuff can go.

Embrace learning new technologies and staying open to growth

Julie [00:20:33]:
Nobody knows what we’re doing here. Yeah. You know? And the other piece is, when we’re building businesses and we do have content creation, that is taking energy in our brain.

There’s energy that we’re expending on content creation and thinking about it and stressing about it, sometimes being frustrated about it. So you are expending energy anyway.

So what if you took some of that same energy and actually learned something new, but that would then on the other side of it make your life a little bit easier. How awesome would that be?

Jeff [00:21:06]:
Yeah. I tell you. So things that I used to dread, Like, writing because I put out an email saying, hey. I’m gonna be you know, this is my show coming up. That, I used to dread.

I used to hate doing show notes. Now I can do it in 15 minutes, and it looks really good. I can and I can crank them out.

And, like that allows me to create better questions for my guests. That allows me to put out maybe another piece of content that will bring in new people.

And so use these tools like Descript, ChatGPT, all those things that can help you become more creative. I I don’t ever think they’re gonna take over what we do. It’s gonna be really hard for AI to do a podcast back and forth like this or go live and talk to people… the comments.

We know they show up every week, and I know, you know, what they do in their spare time. AI is not gonna be able to do that. So I think we’re pretty safe for this.

So use it as a tool. Like, use this stuff as a tool to do stuff that you don’t like to do, and that’s what I do. It really makes a big difference.

Julie [00:22:03]:
That you don’t like to do. That’s the key.

Julie [00:23:39]:
So the 1st place to start, which I love is video. You love video. Like, we like video. So video is not an issue for us. People are gonna have to kinda get over their fear of doing some video.

So you show up, let’s just use Instagram because that’s my first love. So we show up on Instagram. We do an Instagram live.

And to your point, for 15 minutes, I talk about some habits going into the holidays or some habits around setting New Year’s resolutions or some habits as you head to spring break or whatever, and I talk about that for 15 minutes.

Now I’m done. And it’s saved, and it’s in my camera roll. It’s in my photos. On my iPhone. What would you do with it then next?

Jeff [00:24:20]:
So one of the things before you even started, because I use Ecamm, I can actually do the vertical video, and I can go desktop into Instagram now. And I don’t think it would already be on my computer.

I wouldn’t have to take it from my phone to the computer to edit. And so that for me is saving time. I’m trying to think of ways that I can save time.

Julie [00:24:38]:
Right. Say I’ve done that. Is something that you’re putting on your laptop or on your desktop or whatever.

Jeff [00:24:45]:
You don’t have to have that step of taking it off your phone and uploading to your computer to edit. Already done.

Julie [00:24:49]:
Brilliant. Like,

Leveraging Transcripts for Content Repurposing

Jeff [00:24:49]:
And so and, what I would do then is I take it right to Descript because ECAM would save it. I can even click a button into ECAM, and it will shoot it to Descript. Okay.

It will create a transcript. I’ll look at that and say, okay. What was really good about this?

Did I answer a comment that somebody brought in while we were going live, or was it Is there something I said that, oh, that’s really good? That’s what would be a really good, like, Instagram reel. I can highlight that in the script and tell me exactly how long it is.

I hit a button, and it makes a new composition, like a new document, like in Google Docs. And then I could polish it up a little bit.

And the cool thing is because it starts with the transcript, I’ve already got captions. Don’t have to upload it to headline or any of that other place. It’s already there. I can change them up. I can do whatever. I can put them underneath me, and I could put them right there.

[00:25:34]:
I can even have a little another screen that they call scenes in the script, and I could actually have it go out and, you know, have, like, a little call to action, like join my email list or or come to my new course or whatever at the end of that and export it. I’m done.

The cool thing also when I’m doing that original, little section, I could make that whole thing a little podcast. You know, I could send it to Alexa for one of their briefings if I wanna do something like that.

But I also can do, inside of Descript, there’s a thing called studio sound. It lets me click a button, and it makes my mic sound like this, really rich and nice. And so you can do stuff like that.

I have this algorithm that a guy goes through by the more rich and famous a person is, the worse their tech setup is. Like, I did one I edited for a guy interviewed. I think it was, Marc Benioff from the you know, he’s a billionaire. And I think he just opened up his laptop lid, and I’m like, oh my God.

Julie [00:26:35]:
He was in his closet with his tiny mic. Like, I am so horrible.

Jeff [00:26:39]:
The audio was so bad. I’m like, we’re gonna we’re gonna have to somehow tell a guy he’s gonna have to redo this, and it’s not gonna go pretty. But we were able to fix it so it sounds decent enough for a podcast.

So there’s some pretty incredible stuff now that you can do. There’s a new thing that just came out called Regenerate (a feature of Descript), which actually will work for anybody where I can like, if I had bumped my mic or I coughed or even I mispronounced a word, I can do a split right there, and the AI will fix it in my voice.

It’ll either take out the bonk, or if I say a word wrong, it will fix it in your voice or my voice, whoever I have that I need to fix, that has saved me a lot of time.

Another cool feature (Descript feature), if you’re doing courses or you’re doing Instagram live or a reel or something Oh.

And you’re reading a script, the script now has inside of it this thing called eye tracking where you can AI generate your eyes that it looks like it’s looking right at the camera even if you’re off here reading a script.

Jeff [00:27:37]:
And so it makes you like you’re looking straight at the camera. And for and when you’re cutting between things or you’re doing screenshots or something, if you’re explaining a thing for a video, it looks really good, and it makes you seem a lot more professional if you’re reading a script, like, kind of off screen or something and don’t have a teleprompter. So there’s so many cool things in there.

Julie [00:27:57]:
My first thought, knowing how some of my how I would use it, how some of my listeners would use it too, is okay. We get this transcript.

We start looking at this transcript. Now remembering that it used to be people needed to hear things 7 or 8 times, and now they probably need to hear it 78 times for it to actually make a dent in them.

If I did it in stream live, So here, I’ve said these three of four habits that I think they should have. Then I get this transcript.

What I would do is take my key points, and I would make graphics, and I would have a carousel set of graphics so that my next post after the Instagram live was then, again, reiterating that information, but in a carousel post.

And then to your point, I would make a reel, but I’d probably make three of them. And so then your next three posts would be habit, habit, habit. That’d be real, real, real.

So you’ve just done 1, 2, 3, 4 pieces of content from the one.

Jeff [00:29:00]:
Yeah. You can also take all that stuff and put it to TikTok, and you could also make your because you can resize your video because and you can do this inside of the script.

You could have a square view at the top, and you’ve seen this on TikTok a lot.

And then the bottom, like, if you’re making those points, you have a graphic that would flash up during there as you have your subtitle there as well. So that’s another piece of content.

You could make it wide because you can adjust your thing and you can change the format inside of Descript, make another video.

That same clip that you used right. You could make it wide and put it to YouTube, or you could put it square and make it for, LinkedIn, all inside of the script with that same piece of content, but you would make it platform specific.

And so you could bring people to whatever channel or whatever call to action you wanted at the end.

So once you’ve got it in there once you have that transcript, you know, just don’t make it and go, okay. I got an Instagram reel. You’re like, okay. That would probably work on TikTok and also on Instagram, you know, reels or on YouTube Shorts.

Julie [00:29:59]:
Shorts and a blog post and a set of graphics.

Jeff [00:30:02]:
Yeah. And I’ll blow your mind a little bit more. So there’s this other piece of software called repurpose.io. And so you set up almost all workflows.

And so, like, whenever I make a vertical video, I upload it to TikTok, And that sets off a chain reaction where it will automatically take that, remove the watermark from TikTok, and post it as an Instagram reel and also a YouTube short.

So I don’t even have to go into the platform. It will automatically do it for me. And so once again, you get you’re working, you know, smarter, not harder.

And once you put it in that one thing and it tick for some what we found is that if you put it at TikTok first, it works the best.

And it’ll go through, and then it’ll go out to all those other vertical kind of videos platforms. That you wanna go to, and it and it’s amazing. It saves me so much time.

Julie [00:30:55]:
Because I think here’s another little mindset shift that we have to make as well. This is not about getting millions of followers on every single platform.

Decide to Focus On One Social Platform

and have a presence on other platforms

For me, for you, I think too. This is about deciding. I’m gonna go very much on one platform, but I’m gonna take these bits and have a presence on all of the others so that I could be found lots of different ways because TikTok is a search engine and so is YouTube.

Jeff [00:31:29]:
Yeah. Yeah. And the other thing is and this is kind of a 2 point o. Like like, just what you said, Julie, is, like, start on one. Yeah. Go all in. If you’re gonna use Instagram, do Instagram.

This is kinda like, you know, version two of your brand when you have the bandwidth and you figured out a process and you’re comfortable with doing this consistently.

Because, the thing that I have started to find find and we talked about a little bit about we’re the show that we’re I’m gonna go live with Julie everywhere because I can do that with my the technology because

Julie [00:31:59]:
That’s no pressure. No pressure whatsoever.

Jeff [00:32:02]:
Because some people watch me every week on LinkedIn. They like LinkedIn. That’s where they’re comfortable. That’s where they wanna be. And then some people will watch me on, you know, Instagram or wherever I’m at, they’ll YouTube.

They like to watch live videos over there. So you’re gonna when you go to get to that level where you can have the bandwidth to do that, you’ll find you get more audience and more people because they get a watch where they feel comfortable watching.

Like, our friend, Lou Mangelo, you know, he’s got people, and I’ve had this happen once or twice, but he has it every week where people will blow him up on their TV and watch him live on YouTube because that’s where they consume content.

They like to sit in their living room and watch that, which Yeah. It’s weird to us, but, you know, that’s what he and he’s meeting them.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.23.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.23.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.23.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content”]

Julie [00:32:50]:
Which really, as business owners, should be what we’re doing across the board. You know, whether it’s health and fitness, let me meet you where you are. Let me just help you with a 10 minute workout.

You don’t need to do an hour-long workout. That’s not where you are. Let me meet you where you are and give you a tool that will help you. So if you decide that Facebook is your platform or Instagram is your platform, that’s awesome.

It’s not that you’re trying to then be, you know, super famous in all these other platforms

But perhaps a presence on some of the other platforms would be helpful for you to find new eyeballs. Could guess what the lifeblood of every business is? New. It’s new people.

So you serve the people that are already at your table, and you need new people… I always use Disney as an example.

Because at no point in time does Disney ever stop advertising for new people to buy tickets.

Jeff [00:33:40]:
Right. Exactly. Yeah.

Julie [00:33:41]:
Ever. In 100 years, they’re still looking for new people to buy tickets for. You know? Mhmm. So that piece is really important. And I think if we can get women, especially entrepreneurs, who already feel like they have a lot on their plate, I feel that.

So no one’s telling you to work harder. We are saying it’s time to work smarter as we move into 2024.

And to wrap your head around the idea that one piece of content could garner you three, four, five, and shouldn’t that make you feel really happy.

That should really make you feel happy,

Jeff [00:34:14]:
Because you have and you can then you don’t you don’t have to put it all out at once. You could start having a schedule where you can kinda stagger stuff, and so you’re always being in front of people.

Your face is always there giving them value. And there has never been a time when it’s been so easy. Like, you don’t have to learn Adobe Premiere or Movie Maker or be this in super editor. You can do it all, like, with this that’s why I love this platform.

I mean, they don’t pay me anything for this, but, I mean, like, I love how it works. It’s because I cut my teeth on video. I told you, like, this 20 years or something that I think I started with Adobe Premiere 2, like, 2nd version of it. That’s how old I am. And, this thing, like, being able to have a transcript, that was huge.

The transcript, and it will change it in the video and the audio. What? What are you talking about?

Jeff [00:35:11]:
And and able to make clips, it’s just mind blowing once you start going in and playing with it. And for me, saving the I used to have to, like, okay.

I made a clip. That’s great. Okay. Now I’ve gotta download the subtitles, and then I upload them to another vert like headliner or some other service, and they make it. Then I downloaded it again. Then I upload it to whatever platform.

And now I can just go out from 1 place, and I oh my gosh. It saves so much time. And the other thing is if you are growing, This is something that’s really easy to get a team member to do.

You could go in and say, I want these clips, and they do the rest.

Julie [00:35:46]:
You know

Jeff [00:35:47]:
And and so, you know, they can do it all in the script. And so there’s a team version of it. Like, that’s what we use with Guy and myself where he can edit it, then I go in and undo all his edits and do it the right way.

No. I’m just kidding. But do some more stuff and then export it out for the podcast host or whatever.

So it’s just mind blowing once you start thinking about the creative uses that you can use to really amplify your message and your content. Jeff

Julie [00:36:12]:
To be a business owner. To truly be a business owner and build a business that can change your family’s life just by you investing a little bit of time, so when I think about this immediately, I’m like, okay.

On Monday, you could do an Instagram live. On Monday, do an Instagram live.

Then you take that okay. Then Tuesday is your carousel post with graphics.

Then Wednesday is a reel from that live. Thursday is a reel from that live.

Friday is a reel from that live. You just scheduled out your week on Monday from one piece of content.

They actually get the opportunity to hear it multiple times and go, Okay. She’s been talking about needing to have this habit going into the holidays or this one shift into the new year, and she said it now, like, 5 times.

Maybe I need to listen to it now on the 5th time. And then you take that transcript, and that’s your freaking email newsletter that you sent out to your subscribers.

Jeff [00:37:06]:
And so and the cool thing is because you have a transcript now, and it was for a while with, getting it into ChatGPT or something, you couldn’t put a like, for me, it was an hour long worth of transcript. Now it’s no problem.

So you could take that, you know, the transcript from that 15 minute Instagram live that you did and not just jump it into your email.

You’d say, based on this piece of content, write me an email, in a natural language, and you can train it to speak in the way you want it to say.

And, you know, I want you to be my email. You could also say, I want to base this piece of content or even take, let’s say you took the past 3 of your Instagram, lives that you did, put it as in a PDF and said, hey, ChatGPT. Write me an email sequence based on this for my upcoming product. And based on that content, it will actually create it.

Repurposing transcripts to create lead magnets, ebooks, and downloadable resources

[00:37:59]:
So what I have done, with I had, like, a deep dive. I did my podcast. I had, like, five episodes on just about podcasting. Like, we dove into it really a lot. And so I was able to take that as a transcript, so five hours worth of transcripts from those five people and said, ChatGPT, make me an ebook based on this using this. So first of all, spit out chapters. I said, yeah. I want this.

I want that. So it spit it out, and now it’s writing the ebook for me that I can put on Amazon Kindle. I can actually give this away as a free download.

I could have taken your transcript from the inside of, Descript, sent and now they even have AI inside of, the script that you could just say, hey, give me my show notes and my chapter markers, all that stuff inside it.

You don’t even have to take it to ChatGPT. But, anyway, you can actually take that and say, I wanna make a downloadable resource for every episode of my podcast that would be a way for them to get their email or to build your list.

And you could do that really easy now because of you have this transcript of your piece of content that you have created one time.

Julie [00:39:06]:
That point, if you don’t have a podcast, female entrepreneurs, I’m talking to you. If you don’t have a podcast, you could still make that same PDF, which becomes a lead generator to grab someone’s email that they get on your email list.

Jeff [00:39:19]:
I tell everybody now, whenever they speak or they do anything, record it because you add it and make it a transcript, and you can use it as a free download. Yes. You know, put it together in packages as, you know, an ebook, whatever.

CONTENT CREATION HOT TIP: But every time, if you’re speaking in front of a group of three people. Put your phone and record it because you can make a transcript out of that and make some content.

Julie [00:39:43]:
I just did that. Then we I was doing a Zoom for a large group and was kinda being interviewed and having a conversation, and I put my phone on in voice memo, and I set up my big mic, plugged it in, set it right next to it, and spoke on Zoom, and captured the entire thing, and I’ve now cut it up to use for other purposes.

And it was I kinda want to pat myself on the back and, like, look at me. Look at me growing up and doing the thing actually doing the thing. So It’s content.

Jeff [00:40:09]:
It’s the content that you repurpose.

Julie [00:40:11]:
Yes. So good. Jeff, tell us about your Descript course and all the things that you have.

Jeff”s Descript 101 course with a discount offer

So one of the things we didn’t talk about when I actually made those clips is I have created templates. Everything I do, if you look at any of my feeds and you see the repurposed content that I’m doing, everything now is done in Descript.

I used to have to download it, put it in Premiere, and kinda massage it. Now it’s all done there. I actually have a clip, and I click a button, and it adds all the elements that I need, a subtitle, the font, and you know, I have a progress bar.

All of that is inside of Descript. And so what I wanted to do is teach other people how to do that. So I created a course called Descript 101, that allows people to go in and learn what I have learned after many days of trial and error because I want them at the end of the day to be able to repurpose their content and make their own branded templates that they can use and just click a button, and it’s done, and they can go on and create even more awesome stuff.

I have a special code for everybody who’s listening. Use Code ‘JulieSentMe’ to Get a 30% Discount.

https://jeffsieh.com/descript101

Julie [00:41:35]:
Of course, we’ll have this in the show notes. What I love the most about you, Jeff, is that we share this in common, is this passion for shortening the learning curve.

Like, how can we shorten the learning curve for people? How can we make what feels like something that might be hard?

How can we make it less hard? You know? I think we’re both really, really passionate about that in different fields. You know?

I just I want people to know that health and business doesn’t have to be hard, and you want people to know that tech doesn’t have to be hard, and creating content doesn’t have to be hard, and we’ve we’re very passionate about taking the stuff that we’ve learned over a lot of years of trials and errors and experiences and mistakes and all that and just saying, let let me help you, please, and make it not so hard.

Jeff [00:42:18]:
And hopefully, they’ll take it, and they’ll make it even better. This is what works for me. You know? I’m not a big Instagram live person, but I can’t wait to see what people can use to script with their video for Instagram because I know the process works.

I’ve used it. I’ve taught other people how to use it, and it’s just amazing. And most people, if they would’ve known about it, they would’ve jumped right on it because It does save so much time.

Julie [00:42:42]:
So much time. Yeah. And I just think it tackles that beast that content creation can feel like. And, the more we take those excuses off the table, the more people can step into their potential and really truly crank up their goals and crank up their dreams and crank up their life, and then they too can go to Disney, whatever they want to.

Jeff [00:43:03]:
That’s right. That’s right.

Julie [00:43:06]:
This has been so much fun. Thank you so much for coming on and sharing your knowledge. I’m excited to be on your show and talk about all the other things, and this has just been a real pleasure. So thank you.

Jeff [00:43:16]:
Well, Julie, thank you so much for having me. This has been a ball.

Meet Jeff Sieh

Unlock Your Storytelling Superpower!

Jeff is a social media influencer who first found success through using Pinterest to drive traffic to his dog-related content. His first blog post, “Mainly Pinterest Tips Number 1,” gained a lot of attention and helped catapult his online presence.

He later ventured into live video, joining a show with four other influencers and was able to book guests like Guy Kawasaki. Jeff’s journey proves that with creativity and persistence, even the “wild west” of the internet can lead to success.
